True Colors
I had my 20th high school reunion last weekend! It was an absolutely incredible experience! I was part of a wonderful class, we were so tight growing up. Even now 20 years later it is incredibly special to be surrounded by such outstanding people. Even though I don't talk to many of them anymore, there is a feeling of camaraderie when I see them that I honestly can't explain. I consider them to all be family. In looking back at the Reunion I couldn't help but think of the Cyndi Lauper song "True Colors". We knew each other long before the bullshit of life would start to change us to the core! So many of us there that night are valiantly fighting life's battles from bad health, divorce, financial instability and job insecurity. These stresses of life change us, and if we are not careful they can define us. It takes someone who knew you a long time ago, to see through the darkness, to trust who you are at the core, not who you have become in the midst of the bullshit. Nobody grows up planning to get divorced, or lose a job or have a sick child, yet these events can discourage us from being who we are. For one night last weekend we could all see through the bullshit, "we found our true colors"!!Check out the lyrics:
You with the sad eyes
don't be discouraged
oh I realize
it's hard to take courage
in a world full of people
you can lose sight of it all
and the darkness inside you can make you
fell so small
But I see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow
Show me a smile
then don't be unhappy, can't remember
when I last saw you laughing
if this world makes you crazy
and you've taken all you can bear
you call me up
because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful like a rainbow
On another note, I'm working on a life changer!! This one might be big, can't talk much about it now, don't want to jinx myself just yet. Check back for updates!!
Still playing hoop at the gym, I'm planning a run this week if it ever stops raining!!
Good luck, God Bless...ross

Hope and Change!!
I hope the hell America changes their mind in 4 years. We are going down a dangerous path and frankly I'm not drinking the kool aid!! Thirty years ago today a charismatic socialist named Jim Jones had over 900 followers drink kool-aid containing cyanide in a mass suicide. Now before you think I've lost my mind, let me go on the record as saying that I don't think Obama is going to kill us with a mass suicide. I do think that he is going to rape and pillage the wallets of hard working Americans in order to provide for the bottom feeders who won't help themselves. Beware of the charismatic socialist leader!! I don't believe their views are all that different, though obviously Jones was an extremist. Don't forget he was involved in legitimate politics until he flaked out!! You do the research!I was recently called a "hater" by one of my close friends. At first I was quick to deny the allegation. But after a few moments of thinking about it, I embraced it. I am hater!! I hate every mother fucking rat bastard collecting welfare. You people make we want to puke up my dinner! There are no excuse for lack of self respect!! Stop living off the backs of hard working Americans. Get a Job!
I hate illegal immigrants that crowd our schools and hospitals!! Take your non English speaking asses along with your anchor babies and get the hell out of the country.
Why am I a hater?? Because I quite frankly don't understand it!! How can somebody be okay with not working, with not providing for their family?? How can people wake up and look in the mirror and be proud of collecting a welfare check!! Over breeding for financial gain is not an acceptable career choice!! Yet, we as Americans seem to be okay with this. I am not! I am an angry man!!
Why am I so angry? Simple, here is my work schedule for this week:
Sunday-work at airport
Mon-fri Work 9-5 full time job
Weds nite-work at airport
Thurs nite-work at oil company
Fri nite- Drive a limo
That's 4 jobs!! Count 'em, 4 freaking jobs!! I'm not complaining, I'm providing!! I won't be out worked!! I won't ever need Welfare money, food stamps or low income housing!! I get it done!! That's why I'm angry!! I absolutely can't even begin to comprehend how people can't have a job when I can have 4!! Stop taking handouts!!! Start taking responsibility!!
I fear things are going to get much worse with Obama! We now have cities (Philly, NY) asking to be bailed out. Give me a break!! The auto dealers want help too! Gm has lost 46 billion dollars over the last 3 years because they haven't built a car that people want to buy. Sounds like a shit investment for our money. They deserve to be bankrupt. The auto companies all had the chance to come up with a fuel efficient car that people want to drive and failed to do so!! Tough shit, bye bye, chapter 11 exist for companies that can't make money!! My Toyota has 145K miles and is still running strong!! I don't feel bad for them!
People who bought house they can't afford are going to be bailed out!! WTF-Why have i kept up my mortgage payments! They say " my mortgage guy told me i could afford it", really, what are we in fifth grade "Joey made me do it"!! Grow up and take responsibility for your shit!!! My mortgage guy told me I could afford a home for $420K and I laughed at him. I bought a house for half of that! I've been waiting for your sorry ass to foreclose so I could pick up your big ass house on the cheap, but now you're getting bailed out! I get fucked again!!
So there you have it, I'm an angry "hater" and proud of it!! I'd keep talking but I'm working a double tomorrow, imagine that!!
BTW- i started playing hoop at the gym again, jumper sucks and I lost my handle but I'll be back in game shape soon!
Talk to ya later...ross

WORK HARD……
THERE ARE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ON WELFARE DEPENDING ON YOU!!
I played in my first league tennis match this past weekend. As predicted here weeks ago the team is steamrolling through the league. We are currently 4-0!! This past match we won 3-2 over a good Concord team. I played 3rd doubles with my friend Gary. I played with Gary in college and we have been playing for years together. He is honestly the best partner I’ve ever had. He has terrific skills, but more importantly he is the smartest player I’ve ever played with. He sets up points 3 shots ahead. We are a tough team to play against. Over the years we have played a ton of good teams and put up some battles. We don’t always win, but I never remember us being blown out. We are so confident in each other and know each other’s games so well that we both feel free to play “our” style. We won in a 3rd set super breaker in which we were trailing at one point. I can honestly say that even while trailing we both never thought that we would lose the match. We played our best tennis in the tie breaker.
Our team captain Chris is a crazy Australian and he writes a match report at the conclusion of every match. Below is his report of our match:
“The two college buddies paired up in this bottom of the table clash. The
Capitals were a good pair though one of the guys wore suspiciously short
shorts, someone needed to tell him that the 80’s was over. It was obvious the
Algonquin pair were very comfortable and firing on all cylinders as they won
the first set with some solid play.
Towards the end of the first set Gary’s wife and children came to watch their daddy play.
However the children started getting noisy and it was time for Gary’s missus to leave.
On the way out it was reported by Pete’s son Aiden that Gary’s son, Jared said,
“Goodbye Fatman” and was directing his comments in the vicinity of Ross. This
is not confirmed because none of us have ever called Ross “Fatman” and we don’t
know why Jared would say that to the slim Rossman.
The second set see-sawed with service holds until a break. The Braves then
lost their concentration and the Capitals overwhelmed them to even the ledger.
The only words heard from the hapless Braves came from Gary when he
commented on one of the Capitals whose serve was nothing in the first set but
came good in the second set. “Did he take a lesson between sets?” says Gary
after the capital blasted a serve at him.
The tie breaker was hard fought. The score see-sawed between teams.
Ross’s balls swelled to the ground as he dug deep when they were down 6-7.
At this point Ross was pumped, after a lunge mid-court for a volley winner
Ross punches Gary into next week with a jab to the solar plexus sending Gary a
step back. In this tie break Ross showed why competitiveness and tenacity
pays off. To never give up in crucial situations is so important in this league.”
Yes, I really punched Gary after I hit a monster volley to bring us to match point. Not a smart move to punch your partner right before he is about to serve Match point!! But I was really pumped up. At 6-7, after serving like shit all afternoon, I dug deep and hit my best 2 serves of the afternoon to go up 8-7. And at 8-8 I hit a monster volley to bring us to match point. We have a saying on the team that you have to have big balls to win tie-breakers!! Gary and I definitely showed some big ones!!

Election thoughts
Hello,Let me first start by saying that I wasn't able to run the Manchester half marathon either. I was sick for two straight weeks. It's okay, I'm fine with it!! There will be other races. I have started playing hoop at the gym again and have also been playing tennis with my team. We are still undefeated and I make my first appearance in match play this Sunday. I'm paired up with my buddy Gary and I fully expect us to win!
Okay about the election!! I volunteered to drive people to the polls on Tuesday! It was a great experience and I will definitely do it again. If you feel strongly about politics, you should get involved!! It's easy, fun and important!
Congrats to the left wing for pulling out the election. You lied brilliantly! You pulled out all of the tricks. You got the poor, the uneducated and the inexperienced college kids to vote for your man Barack! Seriously, what do college kids know about paying taxes-NOTHING!!!
What a country -when the people on welfare can vote themselves a raise, anything is possible!!
Here are a few things about Obama that scare the living hell out of me -
I have been through 3 union elections in my career- they are nasty and contentious- If he pushes to remove the secret ballot from union elections, union intimidation will be at an all time high!! This is not good for the American worker!! Secret ballots are fair, voter intimidation is not!
When Barack gives drivers licenses to Illegal immigrants, will he put a DMV at the border so they don't have to cross the desert on foot. Is that how he is going to create jobs? Can we pull them over and arrest them for DWI (driving while illegal)!!
3.8 million people collected unemployment benefits last month!! WTF-how is that possible. I read 4 papers today, they all have this section called "help wanted". Amazingly, there were jobs posted there!! You lazy bags of shit make me want to puke!!
I could go on, but why bother?? The American people made a horse shit reactionary choice that we are stuck with for 4 years. Obama has a chance not to completely suck but I don't believe he will take that opportunity. He has to pay back Reid , Pelosi , the unions and the bottom feeders that elected him. We are looking towards economic policies that will punish the hard working people of America!!
Prove me wrong Obama!!
P.S. I'm still not feeling right, i hope i can go for a run soon!!

It’s Race Day. And i’m not running
Hello,Thanks for the calls and emails wishing me luck for the race. Last week I was getting ready to do a 9 miler but i just didn't feel right. I knew something was coming on. Sure enough a day later I got hit with a pretty bad cold. It has since moved into my lungs. This is normal for me with my Asthma. So I'm on the usual course of meds dealing with this shit again. I have mucus coming out of places i didn't know existed..lol
On the bright side, not all is lost. If I can get healthy by next week I could run in the the Manchester Half Marathon. Ill need to get a training run in soon and honestly my training hasn't been going well anyway. I've been dealing with lots of on and off the court issues and I lost my focus. If I'm healthy though I think I can suck up Manchester. I'll keep you posted.
I have lots to write about the upcoming election. Check back later, I should be posting something today, for now I'm going back to bed.
P.S. I have have a favor to ask! - If you don't have a job please get one!! I have 3, how the fuck do you not have one. Collecting Welfare is not a career!!

There ya go! Easy Mike!!
Ok, about the title, you were either there and laughing your ass off right now or you weren't and have no clue what I'm talking about. If the latter is the case, I'm sorry but it's really best left between friends. What a terrible week. I went to the cape over the weekend and must have drank a case of beer. Some how I managed to get in a solid 3 mile run on Monday morning. Since I returned to work on Tuesday, there has been nothing but issues. I had planned to run 9 miles yesterday but had to leave work early with a nasty migraine. Working a double tonight so that leaves tomorrow. I'd say the half marathon hinges on tomorrow. Wish me luck!!
I have so much to write about right now, but no time to do it. I'll give you a quick top 10 of things on my mind.
1) Tim Wakefield is all done!!
2) Obama is going to tax the hell out of us.
3) I hate running at night in the dark!
4) No Child left behind isn't working!! It's a scam- more on this to come
5) If you don't have a job, please find one!!!!
6)My 20 year battle with nicotine is getting old. Why can't I quit successfully??
7) I dipped 2 tins a day in college and miss it terribly, I think about dipping daily!!
8) With all of the miles I've run, i have only lost 1 pound!! WTF!!
9)I have the greatest group friends a guy can have!!
10) I need to see the counting crows in concert soon!!

A come to Jesus meeting
A come to Jesus meeting doesn't always have to do with religion. In fact when I worked at FedEx, where often had a "Come to Jesus meeting" with our under performing employees. Basically we would lay it out on the table, Your performance sucks and if it doesn't improve in the very near future, you will no longer be my problem! You are beyond the point of salvation, you have become a an object of termination. Why do I bring this up now?? Because this weekend I am having my own coming to Jesus meeting!! I have fallen of my training bandwagon! I cancelled another run yesterday!! I'm 10 LBS heavier than when I ran my last half marathon and I only have two weeks to go. I am going away for the long weekend with my family, when I return I will update you with how my meeting went. Currently I have doubts if I can finish this half, but deep inside I also know that I could come back from this weekend with the fire back in my belly!! Talk to you Tuesday...ross

3 Miles with something to prove
I ran three very impressive miles yesterday. I set out with something to prove after the debacle at the falls last week. I needed a good run to get some confidence back. It didn't have to be a long run, just a solid run. I decided on a 3 miler and after reading some good stuff on sweat365 I decided to throw in a challenge. I picked up the pace drastically. I shaved 1.5 minutes per mile of my run. I went out as hard as I ever have and didn't stop busting it until I was done. I was pretty exhausted afterwards, more tired than some of my 9 mile runs, but it was a good tired. I know I could never run my half at this pace, not now anyway but it was definitely a fun way to mix up my training. Physically I felt great. The issues of last week are gone. Now I can focus again. I'm hoping for something big later in the week!!Talk to ya soon..ross

A debate on the courts!!
I had a tough decision to make last night, go to tennis practice or watch the Palin/Biden Debate. Brutal choice!! Of course I couldn’t miss practice and it turned out to be the right decision.
I got teamed up with Gary this week, what more could I want. I’ve said it here before and I’ll say it again, there has never been anyone that i feel more comfortable playing doubles with than the Gman. We’ve know each other for 20 years it shows on the court. We are a pretty solid team. I always play my best when teamed with Gary.
Our last set was a classic that we won’t soon forget. I was struggling all night, couldn’t hit a return to save my life. We quickly fell down love-3. On the change over I did what all players do, I blamed my racket. I switched to my spare racket with the tension about 12 pounds lighter. Immediately I began to smash and crash and we were back in the set at 3-3. The drama started at 5-5. Jp was serving. The crazy Aussie playing singles on the court next to us was either having some type of seizure or mental breakdown. He was screaming after all of his points. I’ve been there, we all have and it sucks to be so frustrated. But , last night wasn’t my turn so honestly I found it quite amusing. In the midst of the outburst we managed to break JP, that was all she wrote. Jp started barking at the Aussie and the obligatory FU’s were exchanged. Gary served out the set for a compelling 7-5 victory. Then of course the great debate about proper court etiquette started over a couple of beers. It’s still brewing today. Sometimes I feel like I’m on the ladies team..wtf with the drama..lol
I cancelled my run this afternoon because I watched the Palin/Biden debate replay at 1am. It made for a long tired day. She did enough! She just had to stay competetive and she was able to do that. Now the focus should go back onto McCain.
I can’t believe they passed the bail out today. Don’t even get me going!! Absolutely horrific!!
I need a 3 miler tomorrow or Sunday to get my confidence up after Wednesday’s fiasco.
Later…ross
